<description>Thanks! Nice pictures. To be able to go for a walk by The Bay _is_ something special. Oh, and I&#039;ve only seen a Segway in the wild once! The pic needs attention: http://tube013.org/images/other/SF-05-07/hq/00012-2.jpg. I get:

		<description>Ed,

I don&#039;t have Dapper running on any systems. but I&#039;d follow some of the comments on my blog, I&#039;m sure the build is going to be about the same.

make sure you have universe and multiverse enabled in you apt sources. The do this:

apt-get build-dep ffmpeg

that will install most of the build dependencies for ffmpeg, the way it comes packaged from ubuntu. also install the faad and faac devel packages, along with xvid devel packs. and then follow the instructions on the playstation2 forum links.

Could you give me a step-by-step on how to build this in Dapper?

		<description>Thanks Mike.

This worked pretty painlessly on breezy. Couple of notes. Faac, Faad and xvid are are available with devel packages if you have multiverse enabled.

I also had to comment out a windows.h include and add some of the defines (the ones added in the forum link) in an additional file asf-enc.c. compile errors will point this out.

Also on Breezy gcc-4 is the default so you have to install gcc-3 and change the symlink for gcc in /usr/bin</description>

		<description>Hi All,

Time for a quick update. I upgraded the PSP to 2.0 and the video playback stopped working. So, did some digging around and found a link to someone who&#039;d compiled the PSP Video 9 (MobileHackerz) branch of ffmpeg on Linux:
http://playstation2-linux.com/forum/message.php?msg_id=48632
There&#039;s quite a few dependencies there, and you&#039;ll need to install lots of &quot;-devel&quot; packages. Hwowever, stick with it, as not only am I now able to generate working video and thumbnails again, the title feature also works now - result!

Couple of points to note on the instructions:
1: Where it says &quot;xvid core&quot; he means
&quot;cd xvid/core&quot; ie, cd to wherever you untarred the xvid core source package to
2: Don&#039;t forget this link down the bottom which lists the compile options used:
http://playstation2-linux.com/forum/message.php?msg_id=48634

If anyone else does this, could you make a note of the additional packages you needed to install. I *think* I required the following:
libogg-devel
xvidcore-devel
id3lib-devel
xmms-devel
libtool
among others. (I run apt-get which took care of any dependencies)

Cheers

		<description>Hi,

Thanks for the info Byron. I haven&#039;t had any joy with the -title option either. As you mentioned, this is how PSP Video 9 does it so I&#039;m not quite sure why my build of ffmpeg doesn&#039;t.

Anyway, one thing I&#039;ve done that you didn&#039;t mention is to generate the thumnail that accompanys the video file. This can be done with the following command:
ffmpeg -y -i filename.avi -f singlejpeg -ss 60 -vframes 1 -s 160x120 -an M4V10005.THM

The -ss option specifies how many seconds into the recording you want the thumbnail to be captured.

Cheers
